What Is A Computer Science Career Like?

Computer Scientists deal with complex computer based problems. They generally apply their training towards developing algorithms, programs, and computational languages. You will essentially learn how to talk to and work with computers.

The Computer Science field attracts some of the best and brightest minds across the country.  If you have ever wanted to work for one of the big tech companies like Google, Amazon, Apple, or Microsoft this is a good place to start.  A computer science degree can help you land a job on the cutting edge of technology.

Education

Computer Science degrees range from Associates all the way up to Doctorate.  While Computer Science is known for being challenging, if you speak with people in the industry you will often find that it isn’t as difficult as you may think.

Unlike some technical careers, it would be extremely difficult to obtain employment in this field without some form of degree.  Generally at least a bachelors is recommended.

Salary

A Computer Science degree is one of the most valuable degrees you can get.  With an average starting salary of $63K it is one of the most lucrative career paths you can take.  As of 2016 the average median salary for someone with a Computer Science degree is $85,917, with the top 10% earning around $130k and the bottom 10% earning around $53K.
